The following role as Curator of Ichthyologie is available as of 1. March 2025 
Staff at the Natural History Museum preserves, researches, and presents its extensive collections in a building designed as a comprehensive work of art. The Museum showcases the diversity of nature, evolution of planet Earth and life, and related cultural development of mankind and offers an inspiring meeting place for diverse interactions.
The earliest collections are over 250 years old. Today, approximately 30 million objects are curated to scientific standards.

Your responsibilities

  • Collection
Management of the Ichthyological Collection
Curatorial care, administration, and expansion of the scientific reference collection
Digitization and processing of collection material
Maintenance and development of the collection database
  • Research
Planning and implementation of research projects, including the acquisition of third-party funding
Research based on the scientific reference collection
Presentation of results at conferences
Publication of results in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Public Outreach
Participation in the redesign of the ichthyological exhibition halls
Writing popular science publications
Involvement in science communication formats (e.g., guided tours, lectures, etc.)
Collaboration with media and educational institutions

Our requirements

  • Completed university degree (PhD) in Zoology
  • Relevant scientific experience in ichthyology, with strong taxonomic expertise
  • Experience in handling and managing scientific collections
  • Excellent German language skills (C2 level), good English language skills (B2 level)
  • Good IT skills
  • Ability to work in a team and leadership skills

The salary we offer is, depending on your qualifications and experience, EUR 3,080.- (gross), 14 times per year, so EUR 43,120.- pa for 37.5 hours per week.
