Backend Developer
We're looking for a Backend Developer!
As a Backend Developer, you play a key role in building and maintaining the scalable services that power our gaming platform. You will join a new team taking ownership of an established system, learning inherited code and improving limited documentation. The role combines hands-on development with active involvement in architectural decisions alongside the system architect, and continuous improvement of system reliability and performance. If you enjoy getting into a real codebase and making it your own, you will fit in here.

Your tasks
Core Responsibilities
? Design and develop scalable backend services in Java, with a focus on performance and reliability
? Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices that handle high-traffic gaming operations
? Work with PostgreSQL and SQL Server, writing and tuning queries for production workloads
? Implement proper error handling, logging, and monitoring across distributed systems
? Collaborate with frontend and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment
Operations & Support
? Troubleshoot and debug backend services, and support observability with tools such as Prometheus
? Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies
? Take part in code reviews, and help document the systems you work on as knowledge transfers to the team
Your profile
? 3-5 years of hands-on backend development experience, primarily in Java
? Strong understanding of microservices architecture, REST APIs, and distributed systems
? Experience building and maintaining production-grade backend services
? Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and SQL optimization
? Knowledge of asynchronous processing, messaging systems, and event-driven architecture
? Comfortable working with inherited code and limited documentation, and willing to help bring structure to it
? Ownership mentality for what you ship, and a pragmatic problem-solving approach
? Clear communicator who works well with the wider team
? Ready to contribute to architectural decisions, and eager to grow your architectural judgement alongside the system architect
? Fluent in English; Serbian is a plus
Nice to Have
? Experience with containerization and cloud platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or Azure)
? Hands-on experience with message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
? Experience with caching strategies and database optimization techniques
? Background in gaming, iGaming, or other high-traffic systems
? German language skills
