ISS is looking to hire a full-time

Lower School Art & EAL Teacher

Starting in August 2024. This is a maternity cover position.

The chosen candidate will need to be able to share and demonstrate the following, through application and interview 
Experience and qualifications 
  •  Have a minimum of one-year Lower School Art teaching experience 
  • Knowledge of whole class management skills 
  • Evidence of facilitating student leadership and agency 
  • Contributions to the community life of a school  
  • Have a formal qualification that is in, or includes Art 
  • Be a certified educator that includes Kindergarten to Grade 5 
  • The ability and experience of writing lesson plans and curriculum 
  • Have the experience and expertise to offer a broad repertoire of Art experiences for children 
  • Be an experienced teacher of children learning through English as an additional language 
  • Have an EAL qualification that is in, or includes EAL 
 
Pedagogy 
  •  Knowing how to facilitate student agency in learning 
  • The ability to integrate the use of educational technologies in learning 
  • A thorough understanding of learning through inquiry in language acquisition and Art 
  • Have strong collaboration skills and be cognizant of different models of teamwork 
  • The ability to differentiate and individualize student learning
Philosophy of learning 
 
  • An active understanding of International Mindedness and its impact upon student learning 
  • Alignment to the strategic direction of the school 
  • Be committed to ongoing professional development in EAL and Art 
 
In addition, PYP/IB training and teaching would be an advantage for this position 
 
Job Description 
  •  To teach conceptual links through the PYP Units of Inquiry 
  • To identify opportunities and teach specific skills, and their development, through the PYP Units of Inquiry. 
  • To teach, and further develop initiatives in the Lower School with real life contexts, as standalone impulses for inquiry, as well through the PYP Units. 
  • To co-teach as needed with colleagues to promote different learning opportunities and perspectives. 
  • To assess for learning by monitoring, documenting, recording and reporting on student learning, in line with the school assessment policies and procedures. 
  • To work with colleagues to continue to share and celebrate learning with ISS community stakeholders

  •  have up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of, children and young people,   
  • display commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people,   
  • value and respect the views and needs of children and young people.
