The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) is the largest Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Germany with approximately 400 employees. It is the National Reference Centre for Tropical Pathogens, a WHO Collaborating Centre and member of the Leibniz Research Association.
 
With immediate effect we invite applicants for a position as
 

Evidence-based Medicine (EBM)Tropical Medicine Group Leader (m/f/d)

at the Department of Clinical Research

 
Your role will be to establish a DZIF-funded Junior Research Group within the Department of Clinical Research with a focus on Evidence-based Medicine. The group's aim will be to systematically collect, analyse, and communicate research data to inform the evidence-based development of national and international clinical guidelines, and support the planning and implementation of clinical trials in the fields of tropical medicine, human parasitology, and neglected tropical diseases. 

Scope of Work:
  • You will be responsible for the evidence-based development of clinical guidelines (S2k, S2e, S3) in the fields of tropical medicine, human parasitology, and neglected tropical diseases
  • You will be involved in systematically collecting and analysing data to inform the planning and implementation of clinical trials in the field of tropical medicine, both in Germany and at our partner institutions in Africa
  • You will be involved in the translation of research results collected by the DZIF TTU Malaria & NTDs into the clinic, with the specific aim of improving setting-specific patient care
  • You will be responsible for establishing a sound methodological framework to carry out these tasks; this includes, but is not limited to, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, Delphi methodology, GRADE approach, patient-reported outcomes
  • You will be required to establish close collaboration with national and international professional societies in the field of tropical medicine, as well as with research institutions in Europe and Africa
     
Your profile:
  • You have a medical degree and are licensed to practice medicine in Germany (approbation)
  • You have additional formal training in epidemiology, biostatistics, or similar subject areas
  • You have previous experience in evidence-based medicine and in independently conducting meta-analyses and systematic reviews
  • You have a proven track record in planning and conducting clinical trials in the field of tropical medicine
  • You have a very good knowledge of written and spoken English; knowledge of French is a plus
  • You have extensive experience working with African partner institutions; you have good intercultural communication skills and are willing to travel
  • You have high degree of motivation, and independence, flexibility
