For our Thieme Science division, we are looking for two positions! 

This is an ideal first role for someone looking to enter scientific medical journals publishing. We are seeking for enthusiastic and motivated personalities interested in being trained in and growing into editorial responsibilities:
Do you want to play an active role facilitating our Science strategy, supporting our journal portfolios together with great colleagues? Do you have an innovative mindset and describe yourself as a team player and problem solver with strong interpersonal skills and who likes to gain experience in scientific publishing and the open access ecosystem?
This is a great opportunity for a dedicated individual to be part of a strategically relevant team and contribute to the development of best-in-class and scalable workflows in a rapidly evolving scientific publishing landscape.

During your training you will support the Executive Publisher in the strategic and operational management of an international journal portfolio and the implementation of strategic journal developmental plans.

Working time: full time

Responsibilities

  • Journal management: You support the team to conduct market and data analyses, journal positioning and strategy. You support the team in implementing acquisition activities like organizing themed issues or invited articles. You also grow into taking over responsibility for specific journal sections.
  • Portfolio management: You learn how portfolios are managed and support the Executive Publisher in implementing strategy and development and acquisition plans.
  • Quality and improvement: get accustomed to implementing continuous quality improvement on a journal level. Become involved in maintaining publishing quality, ethics and standards to ensure research integrity.
  • Performance management: learn how to monitor KPIs and support ensuring to meet the targets. Support our data led approach to portfolio management and development in line with the Thieme Science strategic objectives.
  • Networking, research community: learn about communication approaches with our network and target groups including social media channels. Build up working relationships with our research communities and identify the trends and changes in communities.
  • Collaboration: experience close and coordinated collaboration with colleagues within the international Thieme Science Unit located in Stuttgart, London, New York, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, New Delhi, and Beijing as well as with colleagues in Production, Marketing, Institutional Sales etc.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level, preferably in medicine or biology
  • You possess excellent organizational skills with attention for details and a hands-on attitude
  • Good time and deadline management required with tolerance for ambiguity and strong prioritization skills
  • Strong analytical, and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex issues concisely
  • You are a team player with strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn
  • You have a penchant for knowledge transfer, especially in medicine, and enjoy goal-oriented work
  • International and cultural sensitivity to work in a multi-cultural environment across time zones, willingness to travel
  • Fluent in the German and English language (both written and spoken)
  • Proficient in MS Office and ability to learn new systems and applications
