Working hours: part time (70 - 80 %)

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio management: Supporting the Executive Editor in developing and managing the existing journals' portfolio, in new launches or in the acquisition of new international, medical journals.
  • Journal development: Implementation of journal development plans aligned with our Thieme Science strategy and the journal portfolio strategy. Enforcing set strategies, setting-up activities and prioritize accordingly with external (Editorial Boards) and internal stakeholders (e.g. peer review support,  journal editorial offices, production and marketing, finance, customer support, sales, policy, OA support...).
  • Content acquisition: Acquisition of high-quality content through implementation of article commissioning plans.
  • Performance management: Ensuring the journal's performance along defined targets and KPIs. Conducting market observations and support the Executive Editor in data analysis and reports to secure a data driven approach relevant for managing journals.
  • Quality and improvement: Continuous quality management and improvement of journal standards. Maintain publishing quality, ethics and standards including but not limited to research integrity and policies.
  • Networking, research community: Main contact person for our editors and authors when it comes to managing themed issues and timelines and supporting and steering the editorial office. Organizing, preparing and supporting Editorial Board Meetings including managing some administrative tasks, e.g. invitations and contracts. Working with society partners and supporting their needs and workflows as required.
  • Social media: Supporting social media activities e.g. managing different media channels, setting up newsletters or updating websites.
  • Collaboration: close and coordinated collaboration with colleagues within the international Thieme Science Unit located in Stuttgart, London, New York, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, New Delhi, and Beijing as well as with colleagues in Production, Marketing, Institutional Sales etc.

Qualifications

  • PhD or master's degree preferably in life sciences or medicine
  • Experience in the international academic publishing industry, ideally in an open access environment
  • Excellent communications skills in English and German language, written and spoken
  • You have an above-average degree of self-organization as well as sovereign time and schedule management skills
  • Strongly collaborative team worker, comfortable with co-ownership of shared goals and with a high level of personal accountability
  • You have excellent Microsoft Office and other relevant software skills
  • You are highly motivated and willing and able to travel
