Application as a doctoral researcher (m/f/d) of the second cohort in the Research Training Group 2901/1 "Systemic and local reactions in case of incompatibility to biomaterials for joint and skin lesions - SYLOBIO"
The Research Training Group 2901/1 SYLOBIO is startetd in July 2024 and is investigating mechanisms associated with local and systemic (in)compatability to biomaterials from endoprosthetic joint replacement and for the treatment of chronic wounds. For this reason, the Research Training Group integrates nationally and internationally recognized research groups in Greifswald and Rostock.
The Research Training Group offers an excellent research platform with interfaces to immunology, microbiology, cell biology, and materials science using state-of-the-art methods and technologies. The interdisciplinary and translational research is supported by extensive systems biology, bioinformatics and epidemiological studies. By providing a structured training program in combination with an innovative research project, the Research Training Group offers young scientists ideal conditions for a high-level PhD on a clinically relevant topic. In addition to the research program, the Research Training Group includes an individual supervision and qualification program as well as topic-related seminars, international lab rotations, and transfer skills workshops. The positions are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG GRK 2901/1 SYLOBIO) and are limited to four years. Payment is based on
TV-L E13 with a respective hourly workload of 26 hours/week. Depending on the respective PhD project, employment will be in one of the following working groups at the Rostock University Medical Center:
Orthopaedics (Prof. Dr. Rainer Bader, PD Dr. Anika Jonitz-Heincke), Cell Biology (Prof. Dr. Kirsten Peters), Immunology (Prof. Dr. Brigitte Müller-Hilke), Cardiac Surgery (Prof. Dr. Robert David), Neurology (Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Hermann), Dermatology (Prof. Dr. Steffen Emmert), Biomedical technology (Prof. Dr. Niels Grabow)
The first cohort of 12 doctoral researchers has started on July 1st, 2024. The RTG SYLOBIO will continue with a second cohort in Rostock, with seven additional doctoral researcher positions to be appointed on July 1st, 2026.
The doctoral researchers will investigate the local and systemic effects that lead to (in)compatibility to biomaterials for joint replacement and chronic wounds. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the material-induced inflammation and the patient-specific diversity of the tissue reaction will be investigated in three interdisciplinary research fields (inflammation, systemic interactions, and regeneration) as well as in epidemiological and systems biology cross-sectional topics.
