Fairtrade International is the international non-profit, multi stakeholder body that is responsible for the strategic direction of Fairtrade, sets Fairtrade standards and supports producers.

A key aspect of our work is tracking the impact of Fairtrade on producers. The Global Impact unit does this by using data and evidence to drive decision making and planning, by being responsive to the views of our stakeholders including producer organizations and communities that we work with, and through learning lessons from our work which inform further programme development.
 
Our work in the unit is organized in two sub-teams: (1) Information & Knowledge and (2) Impact Management, both areas of work contribute to the unit's aim that is to accelerate the access of relevant and easy to use data insights for impact driven decisions. For the former we are guided by a digital, data and information strategy that we use to support decisions on what data we choose to pursue, manage, use, and govern. For the latter, we focus on Fairtrade's impact at scale and seek new forms of collaboration, new platforms for learning and spreading what works, new ways to measure to innovate, and new types of impact services in projects and programs.

The Data Assistant role is critical to contribute to the maintenance of data and information used in the implementation of the Fairtrade global monitoring system including strategy reporting and customized monitoring for projects and programs.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of Information & Knowledge, the Data Assistant is responsible for:
  • Assist and support the administration and maintenance of the data and information assets of the Global Impact Unit. In particular: a) to support with quality control management of monitoring data and information; b) to assist in creating, maintaining and updating monitoring datasets and answering data queries; c) to support with the development of procedures of data analysis and reporting (both quantitative and qualitative); d) to assist in creating, maintaining and updating internal policies and procedures; and e) to support in the development, maintenance and  administration digital tools for collection of data  (e.g. survey tools and others)
  • Support the administration of online platforms and resource hubs managed by the Global Impact unit
  • Support in identifying strengths and areas of improvement in the data and information systems
  • Assist and support on administrative tasks as follows: a) contracting, meeting organization, and in the publication and sharing of documents and information; b) organizing events or conferences and c) feed into drafting reports and presentations as required
  • Performing other duties and tasks, consistent with the skills and expertise as required

SKILLS REQUIRED

 
Professional Skills and Personal Qualities:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field development, economics, business, natural sciences, computer sciences or statistics amongst others
  • Experience and advanced knowledge in Excel and databases, e.g., macros, pivot tables, etc. and another statistical / data management program, knowledge in "R" will be an advantage
  • Proven work experience in data management and analysis, either in academic or non-academic settings
  • Knowledgeable in data collection and survey management (desired)
  • Creative problem-solving and customer care service- and goal-oriented style
  • Passion and strength for data analysis and ability to present results in a simple and understandable way
  • Quick learning skills and enthusiasm for applying the knowledge and experience in new fields of data analysis
  • Organized with strong logical thinking and attention to detail
  • Capacity to work under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills working in an intercultural working environment 
  • Motivation for the aims of Fairtrade
  • Excellent written and spoken Business English, Spanish, French or Portuguese are an asset

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • This is a full-time position within Fairtrade International
  • Location is at Fairtrade International offices in Bonn, Germany
  • The office language is English
  • Salary as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Wholesale and Foreign Trade Industries for North Rhine Westphalia and Fairtrade International Company Agreement on wages and salaries Group IV
  • Starting date: ASAP
  • 30 days of holidays per year plus an attractive benefits package
