Come join us as CIVIL ENGINEER/EIT/CET in Halifax

This is a results-oriented role that would suit a highly motivated individual with experience in civil engineering design and/or renewable energy technologies. The successful candidate will work with SWEB Development's (SWEB) team members with expertise in renewable energy policy and incentives, real estate, GIS, legal, design, permitting, site preparation, engineering, finance and construction. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Prepare preliminary civil designs in AutoCAD for wind and solar energy projects, including road design to facilitate major equipment delivery, minimizing cut and fill quantities, optimize overhead power line placement, etc. 
  • Assist team members in estimating construction costs based on preliminary civil plan layouts of wind and solar energy projects
  • Represent SWEB as a technical expert with engineering consultants, contractors, and permitting bodies
  • Perform site visits periodically over the course of the projects
  • Track technological advancements and drive adoption of new materials and technologies, as applicable
  • Support the pre-construction team with equipment delivery requirements and environmental monitoring, environmental mitigation, etc.  
  • Support the construction team with technical tasks, including design, equipment selection and changes as well as managing utility and contractor schedules  
  • Support the financing team and operations team with technical queries
  • Supporting the development of Battery Energy Storage Systems as required

Your Skills

  • 2-5 years of experience with relevant civil engineering work such as road design, foundation design, cost estimation, construction support service
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in civil engineering required
  • Professional Engineer designation in Canada is considered an asset  
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities, strong attention to detail, extremely organized and able to manage a myriad of competing priorities 
  • Able to summarize complex issues and convey information to enable efficient decision making
  • Experience with wind, solar or battery storage is an asset
  • Experience with stormwater protection plans and environmental mitigation measures considered an asset
  • Experience with MS Office, AutoCAD, Civil3D required

  • Full-time employment with an international renewable energy developer and operator
  • You may work from our office in Halifax or semi-remotely
  • You will report to Mason Baker (Director of Technical Services)
  • Occasional travel to project sites in Canada, with possible travel to the United States and Europe
  • Compensation to be determined based on experience
