Biologist, bioinformatician, or M.Sc. life sciences (f/m/d) / Haematology

Rostock, DE
The Hanseatic and university city of Rostock is a lively and child-friendly harbour city on the Baltic Sea. Rostock University Medical Centre (www.med.uni-rostock.de) is the maximum care provider for the Rostock region, a growth region with great potential.

The University Medical Center Rostock has a focus in precision oncology. The Hematology Special Laboratory (Head: Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. S. Böttcher) of the Department of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Medicine is a member of an international network of leading laboratories that are developing methods for determining minimal residual disease and immune monitoring, particularly in hematological neoplasms (www.euroflow.org). The translational application of these flow cytometric and molecular biological methods takes place in registries and interventional studies at the national and European level, some of which are also clinically coordinated by the University Medical Center Rostock or in which the University Medical Center Rostock is a cooperation partner. To strengthen the team of the haematology special laboratory, we are looking for a biologist, bioinformatician or Master of Science in related life science disciplines (f/m/d) to start as soon as possible, in full-time employment (40 hours/week), initially limited to 18 months and remunerated according to TV-L.

Your tasks:

  • Development and application of novel, high-resolution, multicolor panels for the comprehensive, standardized flow cytometric characterization of effector cell populations of the innate and adaptive immune system over time under innovative treatments
  • Development and application of novel, high-resolution, multicolor panels for the standardized flow cytometric determination of minimal residual disease in cooperation with other laboratories of the EuroFlow consortium and other cooperation partners, with a focus on mantle cell lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, and acute myeloid leukemia
  • Establishment of methods for the molecular biological determination of minimal residual disease using next-generation sequencing and related technologies
  • Evaluation and publication of study results
  • Participation in existing and planned clinical trial projects
  • Communication with industrial cooperation partners
  • Supporting cooperation with other international and national working groups, e.g., within the EuroFlow consortium
  • Supervision and quality control of the electronic recording of Laboratory samples
  • Participation in quality management of the Hematology Special Laboratory
  • Advising other research groups at Rostock University Medical Center on the planning of clinical trials and accompanying translational research

Qualifications:

  • A degree in biology, bioinformatics, or a Master of Science in a related life science discipline is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of the function, composition, and immunophenotype of cells of the innate and adaptive immune system in humans is required, ideally demonstrated through publications and third-party funding.
  • Knowledge of the (molecular) pathogenesis of hematological neoplasms is expected.
  • MS Office skills are required; knowledge of database programming and statistical analysis of research results is advantageous.
  • A passion for scientific work, above-average motivation, and a collaborative working style are required.
  • Previous knowledge in the field of flow cytometry, molecular biology, and conducting clinical trials in humans is advantageous.
  • A completed doctorate is advantageous.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills; at least basic German is highly desirable.

We offer:

  • Participation in internationally competitive scientific research projects with potentially high clinical significance
  • Learning standardized flow cytometric and molecular biological methods at an internationally competitive level
  • Participation in regular exchanges with national and international partner laboratories as well as with our clinical cooperation partners
  • Opportunity to publish in scientific journals
  • Opportunity to pursue a doctorate or habilitation, respectively
  • Learning quality management according to internationally accepted standards (ISO 15189)
